How this rescue goes

Fill a bowl with warm water, add a little soap and work it through the fur with your fingers. As the stiff coating rinses away the ball loosens, and a cat shape unfolds one ear at a time.

Drying takes patience. Squeeze the fur in a towel first, then dry and brush in turns. When the coat is fluffy all the way through, clip on the collar and write the kitty's new name on the adoption certificate.

She is one of four Pet Scruffs shown on the carrier, next to a coral puppy, a pink bunny and a sky-blue pet with tall ears. The fur is a clue to guess who, and lilac fur in the window belongs to the kitty.
