Asked before bath time
Sorted by the clock, because the questions change as bath day goes on.
Before the bath
Can I tell which pet is inside?
Partly. The carrier names the family, and for Pet Scruffs the fur colour in the window is a clue: coral for the puppy, lilac for the kitty. Mystery packs keep the rest secret.
What should I get ready?
Warm water in a bowl or sink, mild soap, a towel and the comb from the carrier. An apron helps, since the rinse can splash.
Is it messy?
A little. The coating that keeps the fur scruffy washes out into the water, so do it at a sink or in a big bowl and keep a towel close.
In the tub
How long do I wash it for?
Until the fur feels soft and the water rinses clear. Change the water if it clouds up. Some pets need two rounds.
The fur still feels stiff. What now?
Wash that patch again in warm soapy water and work it with your fingers. Stiffness is leftover coating, and it loosens with another rinse.
Can my child do it alone?
Kids can do the washing, with a grown-up nearby for the water temperature and later for the hair dryer.
After the towel
How do I dry it properly?
Squeeze, never wring, then use a hair dryer on a low setting or leave the pet in an airy spot. Make sure the inside is dry before bedtime.
Will it be as fluffy as the photos?
Brushing makes the difference. Comb the dry fur in small sections from the tips inwards and it lifts noticeably.
Can it be made scruffy again?
No. The reveal happens once, and after that your pet stays a regular soft plush you can keep grooming.
